Two of my sons died of sickle cell disease – President Buhari said
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari said two of his sons died as a result of the Sickle cell disease.
Buhari said this on Friday at a grand gathering organized by his family and friends to celebrate his 80th birthday at his palace.
While speaking about his life, President Buhari said that his two children – who he had with his first wife named Safinatu – died as a result of Sikila disease.
He added that this forced him to undergo genetic testing when he married his current wife, Aisha Buhari.
He said that he insists that the wife he is going to marry must have AA genes, to avoid contracting the disease to the children he will have as he has AS genes.
Buhari married Safinatu in 1971. They had five children with her.
